A question out of curiosity.?

I read a story in a link provided by another user that one of Muhammed's wives had brought him a plate of food and after wards Aisha also brought him a plate of food and out of jealousy towards the other wife who did this first she broke her plate. Muhammed then gave the other wife Aisha's plate to replace the one she had broken. My question is this. If Muhammed had instead bought the other wife a new plate to replace the one that was broken by Aisha would he then have had to buy each wife a new plate out of fairness or not since the reason he was buying was not really a gift, but a replacement for a bad deed by another wife?
