I Hate the Prom!?

I'm a cl officer, so I do the whole student government thing. Its fun and all, and looks good on a transcript, and all I really have to do is take notes at the meetings and go to all of the Student Council events, including all of the dances and prom. Only problem is: I HATE DANCES!!! At my very first dance in freshman year, I got cussed out and bitterly rejected by the girl herself only minutes after arriving, and before that I had bought her a ticket, corsage, and dinner. It was awful, I felt like a big loser and in dances since, I have also had unfortunate things happen to me which hurts my self esteem. Now I hate dances so much that I just show up and leave, and waste my money on my ticket. My friends and the nice and good looking girls, say that I'm really nice, and some of the hotter girls have told me I'm good looking too. But I can't get girls to "like" me. I love people, and I really wish a had a girlfriend to share that love with. Prom is in four months, what do I do?
